Getting Started

Never cooked before? No problem.  This is the page for you.

First, make sure it’s a good time for your parents.  They might be busy, and it’s always best to have an adult on call when you cook, especially the first few times.  Next, wash your hands, put long hair back, and don an apron.  Check your pantry and fridge to make sure you have everything you need for the recipe.  I made the mistake once of starting a recipe before realizing I didn’t have some crucial ingredient.  Sometimes, if you are lucky, you might be able to change what you are cooking, but don’t count on it.  Mostly, you’ll just waste the ingredients.  Read the instructions through, and make sure you understand everything.  Make the recipe!  The first few times you cook, you might mess up.  That’s okay.  It happens to everybody, so don’t let yourself get discouraged. Until you are confident in the kitchen, and have experience cooking, you should follow directions exactly.  As soon as you are confident, you can experiment a little!

I would love to hear from you.  Send me recipes you’ve created.  Comments or questions are also appreciated.

Enjoy, Franny
